In your opinion, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the MSA?
Today in the media Islam is constantly is being attacked and we are the only people here at the MSA
that go up there and convey what Islam truly is because most people today rely on the media to tell
them what is true and what is false. We got to take it upon ourselves to show what Islam is really about
and is it not what is shown on TV and I think we did a great job doing that so far for example ( Islamic
awareness week and Dwah table) and InshAllah in the future we can expand on that and have more
events like Islamic awareness week and more Dawa table. So definitely the strengths of the MSA would
be ability to convey the true message of Islam.
The weakness about MSA I think would be organization on large scale events. When it comes to events
the organization seems be a little bit lacking and that could be due to not having enough man power for
instance, if you are security guard during an event and things got out of control we could handle things a
little better and we should be prepared ahead of time instead of a week or two before the event.
What do you think you can offer for the positions that you are nominated and how do you plan on expanding and growing the position?
This year was my first year that I got involved with MSA and help out in every way I can. I spend time
with Osama who has been a great brother’s coordinator and asked him questions what he think is
should be improved and in addition with my own ideas that I have for brother’s coordinator. I am going
to be able to put a lot of time and effort to my position next year because that is something that I really
want to do and I am not doing this because I am being forced to do or for leadership position and I am
not doing it to put on my resume and this something that I really want to do.
The way I am going to expand is obviously by taking advice from everybody and in addition to my own
ideas, I’m going to talk to the previous brother’s coordinators and see things were run by them how I
can fix it and make it better. I’m going to collaborate with my brothers’ get ideas form everybody so I
could improve this position and plan more events for the brothers and I believe that we can have more
brothers involved and increase our brotherhood.
I think the MSA focuses a little too much on trying to expand and getting more people to the MSA when
in fact they can improve the product of the MSA first and improve the quality of its active members
and perfect it and then we can outreach for more students to come in so when they come in and see
us they see a good example. Not to say that anyone is not good enough but we can improve ourselves
so we could be an example for the new members and follow our example. We should be more worried
about quality then quantity and it is more important have group of active members and group of active
board that are actually welling to do the work and have their heart and soul in what they do rather than
having people coming to just meetings and not doing anything.
How will you advance the MSA as an organization, spiritually and functionally, and what characteristics do you have that will benefit or advance the MSA's
goals?
Something that I do in life as older brother as son, anything that I actually attempt to do I try to do it the
best way and it is in Islamic character and everybody knows that whatever the Muslim try to do anything
they to do it the right and best way. And I fell like me running for brothers coordinator and I have said
that before is not because I want the status, it’s something that I really want to do and if I’m giving the
opportunity and elected to the position I think I’m going to put my effort and soul to it and I want to
improve the MSA from my own position and duty that I’m giving.
Just like any other team, many conflicts may occur between MSA members. How
would you resolve a conflict that has erupted between any MSA members and
between you and other members?
Different conflict require different mode of action
In your opinion what were the positive and negative aspects of this past MSA term?
The positive of MSA is obviously the Islamic awareness week and hopefully we can expand on that and
have it at least twice a year. Last time in I saw that Islamic awareness week attracted a lot of attention
and people want to know more about Islam because it is a hot topic today because it’s always talked
about on the news. Also MIST was very effective and I hope it will get better next year.
The negative are I don’t think we the MSA do enough to raise money to charity for people in need
here or over overseas. We need to do more to raise money and we need to do something as a group to
raise money for orphans here in America or like I said overseas. I believe it’s very shameful that some
organizations are doing more charitable work then we do and that is unacceptable and we can’t have
that. We should have more bake sales and fund raising events and even if no one wants to coordinate
it I am willing to coordinate it even though it may not go under the position as bother’s coordinator, I’m
willing to do all the little things to help out for charitable work.
InshaAllah you receive this message in a state of good health and Faith.
